FAQ
What factors should I consider before purchasing a flammable storage cabinet?
Consider the number of litres of liquid you need to store, the number of cabinets you might need, and where your flammable cabinet will be placed before making a purchase. Don’t be afraid to get in touch with Spill Station’s team if you need help selecting the cabinet that’s best for your needs.Â
How dangerous are these liquids?
If they are not stored correctly, flammable liquids can be extremely hazardous. Most flammable liquids that are improperly stored can explode, and even tiny amounts of flammable liquid vapours can ignite, injure workers, or cause damage to property. Because of this, proper storage of your liquids in a flammable liquid cabinet is vital.Â
Which chemicals should be kept in these cabinets?
Solids and liquids that are corrosive or flammable as well as organic peroxide formulations, oxidizers, pyrophoric, toxic or highly toxic, unstable (reactive) solids or liquids, and water-reactive solids or liquids are meant to be stored in these cabinets. It’s important to store incompatible materials in separate cabinets, and for any other items in question, consult your local safety authority.Â
Do self-closing doors have to be on a flammable liquid storage cabinet?
Cabinet doors must not only be self-closing but also close-fitting and held shut by catches at two or more points in order to properly control the cabinet’s risk measures, as required by Australian standards. This is a control measure that helps provide a variety of safety benefits, such as protection from incompatible substances, a lower risk of spills or leaks, a fire barrier, and the containment of flammable vapour.
