Make your workplace safer, cleaner and more productive with our comprehensive range of spill kit absorbents and spill response aids.
The type of absorbent you need always comes down to what’s being spilled. For example, you’ll need oil only or marine absorbents for oil and chemical spills on regular flooring or on water. Chemical based or universal absorbents for water, oil, and coolants as well as corrosion resistant absorbents for corrosives and unknown liquids.Â
Here at Spill Station, we pride ourselves with a strong collection of oil absorbents.Â
What Are They?Â
Oil absorbents are made to absorb oil, fuel, petrol, diesel and other hydrocarbons in a safe and efficient manner. These absorbents come in varying forms and are designed to be used with different types of spills that occur in different spaces.Â
Commonly oil and fuel absorbents are made from melt blown polypropylene and are always colour coded in white for easy identification. These adsorbents are able to absorb up to 20 times their own weight in oil and have a quick wicking action to clean up spills fast. In addition to this, oil and fuel absorbents are hydrophobic which means that they repel water. This means they can be used to clean up hazardous oil and fuel spills in watery environments that include ponds, sumps, drains, lakes, creeks or in the rain.Â
- Here are some of the unique benefits oil absorbents have.Â
- These adsorbents are ideal for blocking and protecting stormwater drains.Â
-  High capacity means they’re ideal for fast response times.Â
- As long as you match the type of absorbent to the type of spill, they are highly effective.Â
- Melt blown polypropylene has great absorbency for spills, leaks and drips.
- It’s a tough, non-allergenic, non-hazardous and durable absorbent.Â
- Â The fast absorption leads to lesser downtime and increased productivity.Â
- Can be squeezed out and re-used in some circumstances.
- Â Simple and easy to use without PPE required.
- It’s great for drains, sumps and many different industries such as mines, workshops, oil depots and repair shops.Â
What We Carry at Spill Station
At Spill Station we do our best to cater to many different types of spills to aid as many workplaces as we can in keeping their workers and the environment safe. With this in mind, here is what we carry in terms of oil absorbents.Â
Absorbent Pads
Absorbent pads are a very common type of absorbent, and they are made for all purpose use. So you can use them to wipe small leaks, reduce slip and fall dangers and use them to stop ongoing drips. They are effective as they are thick enough to offer double the absorbency of a standard paper towel and function as a modern-day replacement for older solutions such as waste rags, or cat litter, which are now non-compliant.Â
The pads are great for absorbing smaller spills and can be used during the end stages of cleaning up a larger incident. Many industries use them to wipe down oily equipment and clean small leaks. They can also be used in tool trays to absorb oily residue.Â
Absorbent Booms
Absorbent booms can stop a spill from spreading on dry land. They essentially act like a barrier between unaffected areas and the spill itself. But placing down an absorbent boom, you can prevent spills from halting work, seeping into drains and harming the environment. These absorbent booms come in multiple sizes, there is a mini size that is intended to be placed immediately around drains that may be in the area, and larger versions that can be joined together depending on the size of the spill. After using a boom, you can relax and safely remove the spill with other absorbents.Â
Absorbent Floating Boom
It’s vital to protect the environment in the event of oil and fuel spills on water, and marine absorbents are specifically designed to contain a spill and limit its spread in the environment, making it easier to reduce any damage and make cleaning faster. Instead of absorbing the spill, these absorbent booms float on the water and stop oil and debris from spreading. These booms can do this without soaking up water and are made with a tough outer layer that is designed to let liquid pass through but trap oil. With D-rings and snap hooks, you can use multiple to make the right length you need. As they are made to last, they can be left on the water for up to six months.Â
Absorbent Blanket
These are great for use on dry land and can be used to protect a shoreline or riverbanks in the case that oil or fuel is spilt on water. It can repel water and water-based liquids and absorbs 20 times its weight. Despite this Spill Secure Technology making it ideal for use on water, it can be used to surround a spill on dry land as well.Â
The absorbent blankets are also dimpled for absorption to happen faster and laminated for increased strength and even has perforations at every 500mm or 1000mm, depending on the size. This is done to make the rolls cost effective as you only ever need to use as much as you need.
Absorbent Pillows
Absorbent pillows allow you to take control of large spills and ongoing leaks. They are high-capacity spill absorbents that work when you need something more than a mat. They can soak up everything from fuels to oil and diesel and should not be used for other hazardous chemicals.Â
Absorbent pillows are unique as they have a larger surface area, a higher capacity and fast wicking properties to soak large volumes of liquids fast. At Spill station, we offer different sizes depending on your needs and one unique way to use them is if you notice machinery leaking slowly, the absorbent pillow can be put in hard-to-reach places to contain the spill.Â
If you need any help with understanding how to use these absorbents and if they belong in your spill kits, you can contact us at any time and we would be happy to answer your questions.
